The city is conveniently situated on the main routes between two megalopolises, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Several routes of regional importance by which the city is connected with the neighboring regions (Smolensk, Novgorod, Vologda and Yaroslavl regions) pass through Tver too.
It is also possible to come to the city by water transport via the Volga River or its tributaries but permanent water communication is absent now and this option will be suitable only for independent travelers or persons who travel within organized motor ship excursions.
